"My father was a farmer when we lived in Vietnam. He grew whatever we needed and taught me how important it was to take care of family and to help others. We moved to the States in 1991 when I was 23 years old, but I didn't know the language, so after working in the mornings, I took ESL classes at night, studied English at church, watched American TV, listened to the radio, and tried to have as many conversations in English as possible. Once I could speak and write, I was able to translate for other people. For example, when someone needed to go to the doctor, I took them and could help explain their symptoms and tell them what the doctor said. My father never learned English very well, so I still do that for him. He's 96 now.

"My wife, daughter, and I all work here in our nail shop. We do whatever needs to be done and don't really get tired of being with each other all day. I think it makes us closer."
