“What do I like best about having grandchildren? When their parents come to pick them up! It's great to see them coming, and it's great to see them go! [*laughs*] It’s funny when they try to pull something over on me and they don’t think I know. When my grandson wants to do something wrong, he calls me by my name. He’ll say, ‘O.D., can I… ?’ He knows the rules, but I’m soft; I have a hard time saying no. I give them a little leeway, and then my daughter jumps on me: ‘Daddy, you shouldn’t have let them do that.’ I say, ‘Well, that’s just part of being a grandparent.’ When my babies were born I was working two jobs, so I didn’t have as much time to spend with them as I do now. The grandkids come over in the mornings, they want something to eat, they want this, they want that. But it’s good to have some little feet jumping around the house. And when they call me Granddaddy---man, that feels good. They keep me going.”
