"I was 16 when I had a jet-ski accident that almost severed my arm. Before that, I had been all about sports; I participated in everything the school offered, but of course I couldn't do that anymore after the injury. The doctors said it would probably be a couple of years before I regained the use of my arm. It was pretty depressing, and I did a lot of moping around and wondering what I was going to do next. Finally my mom got tired of that and said, 'Look, there are plenty of people who are worse off than you. Get up and do something.' She put a camera in my hand, and that was the beginning. I majored in photography in school [Memphis College of Art], and my wife and I opened a wedding photography business three years ago, Massey Wening Photography. I actually look at the accident as a blessing now."
Matt Wening and wife Katie are graduates of Memphis College of Art and both hold degrees in fine art photography. Together, they own and operate Massey Wening Photography (also on Facebook). Matt also works some Sundays at The Booksellers of Laurelwood.
