“This time last year I was really struggling with my college decision. My entire high school career I wanted to go to college in Mississippi because I had visited a certain campus there with my best friend and really liked it. But the issue came down to being in a city where I knew I could actually get a job after I was out of school, and that was Memphis for me. Now I’m a sophomore at the University of Memphis and planning to enter the medical field as either a child life specialist or as a doctor of pediatrics. I’ve always loved kids. It’s so interesting to watch them develop, knowing that the things that happen in childhood will influence their entire lives. That’s where they develop decision-making skills and learn how to handle problems. If you go to a psychiatrist with an issue, they’ll often trace it back to something that happened when you were a child. I think that’s just really interesting. I love my classes. I was born and raised in Tipton County, just outside Memphis, and I’m really happy with my decision to stay here for school. I would never go anywhere else.”
