“There was this red-headed girl in Biology class, and I thought she was cute. We had already been dating some when Sadie Hawkins Day came around. That’s when the girls chased the boys, like in the Li’l Abner comic strip, and the boy had to take out whichever girl caught him. Ruby Nell caught me, and I had to go.”
*laughter* “Three or four other girls were chasing him too, and he went around a building. They went one way, and I went the other. I guess he figured I was the lesser of two evils!”

Johnny and Ruby Nell have lived in Memphis since 1950. They will celebrate 64 years of marriage on October 21.
