"When I was 16 years old, I was bitten by a brown recluse spider, and it poisoned all my red blood cells. I was in the ICU, in and out of consciousness for six days. My body initially rejected the blood transfusions (I had six in all), and the doctors told my mom to go ahead and prepare for my funeral. I was not expected to live. But that's the day I woke up. Because of that experience, I try to live every day as though it's my last. I try to be loving and kind to everyone I meet. Kindness doesn't cost anything. One positive interaction, one smile, could be just what someone else needs."
