“I faced a lot of rejection when I was in school; I wasn’t one of the cool kids. You can see I’m a heavy person now, but I was always bigger than my peers, and I struggled with fitting in all the time I was growing up. The only thing that got me through was God. Both my parents are pastors, so I had always been around people of faith, and I learned that even if no one else accepted me, God accepted me for who I was and would be with me every step of the way. When I didn’t have a friend to call on, I could call on him. The desire for approval was still there though. I started doing Christian rap as a teenager, but when the kids at school found out about it, there was even more pressure and rejection. With me being 16 years old, I didn’t know how to handle it, so I just stopped performing. To this day, that’s one of my biggest regrets: that I let peers dictate to me what to do. That started me on a dark path, and from then until I was 25 years old, I made a lot of stupid choices and ended up in a position I didn't want to be in.
"It finally hit me that I wanted out, so I returned to God and picked Christian rap back up again. I look back now on the rejection I faced in school, and I can say it was worth it because now God is using me to help other young people who are facing rejection from their peers.
“I perform in parks, churches, and for different events around the city. Before a performance, I prepare by praying and asking God to cover me and be there with me. I don’t just do music; I talk to the audience and let them know why I do what I do. I don’t just rap to them; I minister to them. I let them know they don’t need anybody else’s approval. A famous Christian artist, Lecrae, said something once that stuck with me. He said: ‘If you live for people’s approval, you’ll die from their rejection.’ You don’t have to find your worth in people, because people will let you down. You don’t have to find your worth in things, because things will fail you. But God will never fail you. For the last three years, I've been trying to give people hope. What I do is not about money. That’s not my motivation. I’d rather see lives changed like mine was changed. This city needs more love. It’s been divided by opinions and race and status. It’s heartbreaking. I’m trying to do my part to help people see that there can be a better life.”
